You'll not be surprised to find out that Pizza Hut - the UK's leading pizza restaurant and delivery chain - has delivery sales, which have soared since the launch of our online service www.pizzahut.co.uk. A lot of this growth has been in the last six months, as our customers are looking for ways to save money by dining at home. Since we launched www.pizzahut.co.uk in March 2007, our online sales have increased at an average rate of 25% per month - and this month we celebrated our millionth order placed through the website!

 

Over 88% of Pizza Hut delivery restaurants are currently live for online delivery. Unique visits to the site have risen by 14% since its launch, with numbers peaking at 433,000 last month; 65% of unique users have visited the site since January. The average order placed online comes to just under £18.00, and we're confident of even more sales as our service expands, later in the year.

 

Hugh Wood, Chief Marketing Officer for Pizza Hut UK, says:

"As we received our millionth online order earlier this month, it's clear there's a trend towards dining more at home recently. Our online service contributes around 18% of the delivery business's sales, and we're developing this service more to anticipate the strong growth of website sales in the future.

 

We launched our online ordering service in the UK, after the success of our pioneering US model. The technologically advanced system looks for the customer's nearest branch with a postcode recognition mechanism, and automatically suggests any meal deals or current offers that might be a better value buy.

 

As online users increase, we're continuing to invest in upgrading and developing online services. Customers can already enjoy freshly baked pizzas, delivered at a time specified by them. We've gone one step further recently, for those customers who do not live near a Pizza Hut Delivery store; they can now make an order online and collect it from one of our dine-in restaurants. In the last two months we've also introduced an online table reservation tool, making it even easier to organise a night out with friends and family.

 

Pizza Hut is not just investing in its online service but also in its bricks and mortar sites. We've recently announced a £17m investment in refurbishing the estate over the next couple of years. 100 stores have already been refitted with a new look interior and logo, and we're making significant changes across other areas of the business, too. This includes improvements to our service, a wider menu range with improved variety and improved nutritional profile of products, and a new kids menu with hidden veg and free salads with every kids meal.
